Special Events
At CHDS, we celebrate children and their families. Throughout the year, parents and extended family join us at Happy Day for cultural celebrations, family pot lucks, pizza nights and birthdays. From our Halloween Pot Luck Dinner to our End of the Year Celebration, CHDS welcomes the rich and diverse community of our families.
Grandparent’s Lunch:
The highlight of the year is often our Grandparent’s Lunch. The week before Thanksgiving, children invite their grandparents or grand friends to join them at Happy Day for a special lunch. The children bring in ingredients from home and spend a few days preparing the lunch. They wash and cut the vegetables for their soup “full of love.” They bake muffins and bring in treats. The children love sharing their school and their friends with their grandparents and it is a day treasured and cherished by generations of Happy Day families.
Family Sharing Month:
During the month of December, we take time to celebrate the traditions and cultures of our Happy Day Community. Parents and extended family join us and share their family traditions. They might share a holiday or cultural tradition. They might share something special in their family-music, art, woodworking, crafts, etc. Family sharing month is another opportunity to celebrate a child’s first teacher-his or her family.
